First, locate your constitution score on the left hand side, in the second column. Next, find the number in the right-hand column that is in the same row as your constitution score. For 2D, this is 12. For 3D, this is 18. For 4D, this is 24. This is your maximum hit point score. Taking this amount of damage causes your character to die. The columns in between are damage increments. This is the MAXIMUM amount of damage that your character can take and still be in that state. EXAMPLE: Let's say you have 3D of constitution. you take 2 damage. This puts you in the 'B' column, because you have taken more than 0, but LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO 3. If you take 2 more damage, that puts you at 4 (2+2 =4). You would then be in the 'I' column because you have taken MORE THAN 3 damage, but LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO 5. COLUMNS: B: bruised. tossed around, no real effects. I: injured. Ow! you are now feeling a bit of pain, and all die rolls suffer as a result. When rolling dice, subtract ONE (1) die from your pool (if you had 5D of sword, and were injured, you would only be able to roll 4D). If you only have 1D in something, you can still perform that action, with 1D (you may always roll 1D to perform an action, even when injured/drained). If you have 1D+1 or 1D+2, you would roll 1D only. W: Wounded. A little more hurt. Still only penalty of 1D (not cumulative). M: Mauled. Boy are you hurt. It's getting hard to keep your balance. -2D to all rolls (ie, if you would normally roll 3d to do something, you only get 1D--all skills that you have that are less than 3d are still usable at 1D). C: Crippled. You need help to stand up. You are not doing well. All dice rolls at a penalty of -5D. GM may rule that certain physical actions are impossible without endurance (the advanced skill). I:Incapacitated: You are unconscious or nearly so. Physical actions cannot be taken. Mental actions are taken at -7D. MW: Mortally wounded. No action may be taken. You lose 1hp for each round you are in mortally wounded until bandaged or killed. Regenerative powers cancel this loss. Endurance is a really good skill for the following reason: you roll it when hurt. For each success level you beat, you get to null a -1D penalty. Thus, if you beat one success level, and you are only injured, you don't suffer any penalties. If you were to beat 2 success levels, you would NOT get an extra 1D--endurance is only useful for nulling penalties. If you were crippled, though, and beat 3 levels of difficulty, you'd only be at -2D, which is the same as mauled for mmost other people. This can give you a tremendous advantage in a fight, blow for blow, because your ability will not be affected, even as your opponent's drops lower and lower with each cut. Endurance has no effect on the penalties imposed by level-drain like attacks, such as those caused by undead or enervation.
