GETTING NEW PRIEST SPELLS created 2/6/99 It costs 2 cp per level of the spell to gain a new priest spell. Roll prayer with the modifiers specified below. If you fail, you lose 1cp (flat, not per level). This will keep you from praying too much just to hope you roll high one day :). The difficulty is 4/level of the spell (rolling prayer). This puts the average level of a priest to about 7 of d&d (with 5d of prayer, you roll on average an 18, meaning you get level 4 spells, sometimes, and maybe a few level 5 spells). This does not, of course, mean that you can CAST them, but you can certainly try. MODIFIERS Divine favor should be applied to this roll also. HOWEVER, you SHOULD know the name of the spell, and have a description, from either a text or a cleric of the same faith. If you do not and pray blindly, you get a -10 penalty on your prayer roll to attain it. If you pray on consecrated ground (to your god) you get a +2 to the roll. If you pray in a shrine of some sort (with an altar) you get a +4. If you pray in a temple (depending on the size) the bonus will be anywhere from +6 to +10. You cannot pray for spells on the consecrated ground/shrine/temple of another god.
