Jaystorm: The RPG
Welcome to Jaystorm!
This site is designed originally to keep our
circle of friends updated in individual role-playing games. Since
its start a few months ago, it's blossomed into a bottomless well of
knowledge and resources! Please use the navigation bar on the top of the page to help guide you through and find anything you may be looking for. The "Portal" site has news, announcements, polls, feedbacks and FREE membership and email accounts! Check it out!
Check to see if your friends have already signed up!
If you don't know much about
role-playing (Dungeons & Dragons)
or want a nice way to explain to your "normal" friends, colleagues,
co-workers or religious leaders that it isn't kinky or
EVIL, please visit This
Site which has an excellent essay about the game. He points out
the great things about it: It's social, it's cheap, it gets your
imagination flowing and you have to do some studying, especially if
you're a game master. You have to use math skills and learn about
different cultures and armor, maybe even war tactics or healing
techniques. I encourage inviting anyone curious to a gaming session
at your local game shop or your regularly scheduled game. And if
you're one of the curious, ask to sit in and watch once.
You may find you like it!
Here's a
perfect example of a gaming session brought to you by the
Dead Ale Wives.
The main simplicity of Jaystorm, specifically, is the dice system
We only use six-siders (D6), like the ones you'd find in Yahtzee or
Monopoly. The D&D system uses mostly 20 siders, but no matter how
good you are or how high your level, you could keep rolling a "1"
(which I did frequently). With Jaystorm, your dice amount goes up,
so you keep adding to your base score, increasing your chance of
doing something better. The simplicity in the rules makes it much
more open for character ROLE playing. It is common in Jaystorm for
a character to be multi-classed, like a fighter-thief or a
Paladin-psionic, or anything you want. Heck, you could play a
complete schmuck without any titles at all!
(for example we have HICKstorm!)
Jay Crandall has been running his game since about 1993. It has been anything but boring over
the years. His game sparked inspiration in the rest of us and
from it came Celtic Jaystorm, Jeffstorm, KittyStorm, the Bastard
Games, Ericstorm and Kevin's Neo-retro game (giving players a chance
to play their first PCs the way they SHOULD be played),
Jeff's Middle Eastern game and
Suechan's Hawaiian Campaign are currently under construction.
